FOSTER AND ADOPTIVE FAMILY SERVICES OF CAMDEN COUNTY
Welcome to the new website for the Camden County Foster/Adoptive Family
Services.  A  big Thank You goes out to Mary Hanley for all your help in setting this
website up for us.  Please,  keep checking back often for new and exciting
information.

Foster and Adoptive Family Services of Camden County is a volunteer committee
of FAFS.  We are a fully insured 501 C-3 non profit organization dedicated to
providing services to foster and adoptive families throughout the state of New
Jersey.  Today FAFS is the leading advocacy organization for the over 5,000 foster
families that provide loving, nurturing and stable care for children removed from
their homes because of abuse and/or neglect.

FAFS of CC will no longer sending out newsletters.  With the rising cost of
postage not to mention the price of printing the newsletter all the information you
need will now be done on this website.  If you have anything that you would like to
see in this site or any suggestions please, E mail:
 camdenfoster@gmail.com or
FAFS of Camden County, P.O. Box 940, Glassboro, NJ 08028.

Get yourself a cup of coffee, soda, or whatever you like to relax with and browse
through the pages of this site.  You can see what a wonderful time we have and
the awesome friendships that have formed through the years.  We are not DYFS
we, are a group of volunteers and we have many parents who have been foster
parents for a while and some who are just starting out.  We have a network of
options available to us in support of the wonderful job that we do.  It is often that
people do not understand what we do and why we do it.  At our monthly meetings
we offer that support.  We also like to get together outside of our meetings and we
have many parents willing to help with a phone call.
One hundred years from now
It will not matter
What kind of car I drove,
What kind of house I lived in,
How much I had in my bank
Nor what my clothes looked like.
One hundred years from now
It will not matter
What kind of school I attended,
What kind of typewriter I used,
How large or small my church,
But the world may be ...
a little better because...
I was important in the life of a child.
My friend has a cousin who is a foster parent but, they
just do it for the money.

Being a foster parent for many years I have heard this over and over again.  "They do it for
the money.  When my response is "What money?"  Some people don't even know what to
say.  They have heard that statement so many times themselves and don't even know what
it means. The following is a break down of the reimbursement rate based on the 2010
board rate:

A foster parent caring for:

an infant is reimbursed
99 cents per hour

a 6 year old is reimbursed
$1.09 per hour

an 11 year old is reimbursed
$1.12 per hour

a teen is reimbursed
$1.16 per hour

According to the U.S Department of labor the minimum wage is
$7.25 per hour.

Foster parent are NOT paid: they are volunteers.  Foster parents are reimbursed at a flat
rate for expenses incurred.

New Jersey reimburses resource(foster) parents
64% of what the actual cost is to provide
care, according to a recent study by the National Foster Parent Association, the University
of Maryland School of Social Work, and Children's rights.

Fostering Connections, LLC is pleased to announce
the creation of foster family website.  This  website is
dedicated to serving the foster family community.
The goal of the website is to connect foster  families
to reunite, share information, express opinions and
offer support.  Membership is free to all.

The site is new and will expand with information as
membership grows.  The highlight of this site is to
reconnect with family.  We all know someone or have
experienced losing a foster child for a number of
reasons.  These children eventually age out of the
system.  For these young people to reconnect with a
family that touched their lives in their youth would be
invaluable.  We are dedicated towards making these
connections.
